On April 1, 2026, a significant event for the Department of Genetics, Breeding, and Animal Biotechnology took place at Sumy National Agrarian University – the successful dissertation defense by postgraduate student Ihor Olehovych Kompanets.
The defense was held before a one-time specialized academic council for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the specialty 204 “Technology of Production and Processing of Livestock Products” (field of knowledge 20 “Agricultural Sciences and Food”).
Dissertation Topic: “Efficiency of breeding dairy cattle of different origins based on longevity traits.”
Scientific Supervisor: Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor of the Department of Genetics, Breeding, and Animal Biotechnology at SNAU, Leontii Mykhailovych Khmelnychyi.
During his presentation, Ihor Kompanets shared the results of long-term research conducted at the “Burynske” private enterprise. The work addresses a pressing issue in modern cattle breeding – the search for early prognostic factors of productive longevity in Ukrainian Black-and-White dairy and Holstein cows.

- Official Opponents: Professor Ruslana Stavetska (Bila Tserkva National Agrarian University) and Associate Professor Oleksandr Kochuk-Yashchenko (Polissia National University).
The council members noted the high scientific level of the work, the depth of statistical analysis, and the practical value of the obtained results for breeding work in the Sumy region. Following an open vote, the council members unanimously supported the decision to award Ihor Kompanets the degree of Doctor of Philosophy.
