Research Activity

Key Research Areas

Department of Feed Technology and Animal Nutrition
The Department develops technologies for rearing young livestock, standardised feeding regimens, feed preparation, and the enhancement of animal feeding practices in both industrial and small-scale farming systems. Research also covers organic poultry farming, pig nutrition, and the production of high-quality raw milk.
A dedicated Feed Quality Laboratory operates within the department, offering feed ingredient evaluation, advancing innovative technologies, and actively engaging students in research projects.
Priorities:
• Testing of feed additives
• Enhancing animal productivity
• Poultry gender determination techniques
• Optimisation of feed conversion efficiency

Achievements:
• 5 PhD theses defended
• 2 patents granted
• Participation in 15 international conferences

Department of Production and Processing of Livestock Products, and Cynology
The department specialises in the selection and breeding of cattle, optimisation of livestock reproduction under industrial conditions, assessment of exterior traits, and increasing milk yield.
A scientific school in dairy cattle breeding, led by Professor V.I. Ladyka, operates within the department.
Priorities:
• Improvement of the Brown and Ukrainian Black-and-White breeds
• Development of methodologies for preserving genetic biodiversity
• Development of cattle micro-populations with unique traits (e.g. hypoallergenic milk)
Achievements:
• Several doctoral and PhD theses defended
• Development of standards for artificial insemination practices

Projects:
• Preservation of the Brown cattle breed
• Formation of genetically distinct micro-populations
• Enhancement of service dog use

Members of the academic staff collaborate with research institutions across Ukraine and provide professional training in cynology under an agreement with the Ukrainian Kennel Union.

Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Biotechnology
Research Topic:
Improvement of dairy and dual-purpose (milk-meat) cattle breeds in terms of milk yield and exterior characteristics using modern genotype evaluation methods.
