A practical class was held for Bachelor’s degree students enrolled in the “Technology of Livestock Product Production and Processing” educational-professional program at the Educational, Scientific, and Production Center of Sumy National Agrarian University.
The session, titled “Digestibility and Nutritional Value of Feed,” was conducted by V. O. Opara, Associate Professor at the Department of Feed Technology and Animal Nutrition. Conducting classes directly at the university’s production facility enables students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills and gain a better understanding of the importance of feed quality in modern livestock farming.
During the class, students explored key indicators of feed nutritional value, as well as the processes of digestion and nutrient assimilation in animals. Particular attention was paid to factors influencing feed utilization efficiency, such as chemical composition, quality, physical properties, and preparation methods prior to feeding.
The practical component allowed students to consolidate their knowledge regarding feed assessment, the determination of nutritional value, and the role of digestibility in ensuring animal productivity. The knowledge gained is a vital part of the professional training for future livestock industry specialists. Utilizing the facilities of the SNAU Educational, Scientific, and Production Center helps students develop the practical competencies needed for scientifically grounded animal feeding management, efficient use of feed resources, and increased livestock production productivity. Combining classroom instruction with practical training at production sites is a crucial component of high-quality vocational education and the training of competitive specialists for the agricultural sector.
