OPEN LECTURE: “SCIENTIFIC AND PRACTICAL SCREENING FOR OWNERS OF 2-MONTH-OLD PUPPIES: HIDDEN DISEASES, DEVELOPMENTAL DEFECTS, AND GENETIC RISKS. REGULATORY ASPECTS OF TRANSFERRING PUPPIES TO NEW OWNERS”

On March 25, 2026, the Faculty hosted an open lecture titled “Scientific and Practical Screening for Owners of 2-Month-Old Puppies: Hidden Diseases, Developmental Defects, and Genetic Risks. Regulatory Aspects of Transferring Puppies to New Owners.”

The lecture was delivered by Dmytro Berezhnyi, a renowned veterinary orthopedist, PhD in Veterinary Sciences, Associate Professor, and Chief Physician of the “10 Friends” Veterinary Center in Sumy. The event focused on the comprehensive assessment of 2-month-old puppies and the importance of early detection of hidden pathologies, congenital defects, and potential genetic risks. Participants learned to identify signs of future health problems, conduct proper primary examinations, and recognize critical factors when selecting a puppy.

A separate section of the lecture addressed the regulatory aspects of transferring puppies to new owners, including requirements for documentation, veterinary supervision, and breeder responsibility.

The session was attended not only by students enrolled in the “Cynology” educational program but also by students from SNAU colleges and participants of the online courses offered by the Cynological Union of Ukraine. The event served as a valuable platform for breeders, future owners, and anyone seeking to improve their awareness of dog health and welfare during the early stages of development. We would like to thank the lecturer for an informative and meaningful presentation and look forward to future collaborations!
