On November 25, 2025, a guest lecture was held at the Department of Foreign Languages of SNAU.
The invited speaker was Liudmyla Kotkova, Associate Professor of the Department of Philological Disciplines and Methods of Teaching at the K. D. Ushynskyi Chernihiv Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Chernihiv, Ukraine.
The topic of the lecture was: “GRAMMATICAL NORMS AS MARKERS OF IDENTITY”.
The meeting was attended not only by faculty members of the Department of Foreign Languages but also by lecturers from other departments of the university, as well as students.
The speaker explored the forms of the genitive case and focused on the manifestations of linguistic nationalism in word endings, supplementing the presentation with examples from literary works. Participants learned about forms of the genitive case that are atypical for modern Ukrainians and which had not been used in literature for a long time during the 20th century.
Particular attention was paid to Ivan Ohiienko’s role in shaping Ukrainian orthography. Early 20th-century dictionaries, which documented changes in Ukrainian vocabulary, were also presented. The film “BUDYNOK “SLOVO”. NESKINCHENYI ROMAN” by director Taras Tomenko was also mentioned as a modern Ukrainian film that contributes to the formation of national consciousness.
The lecture was interactive, with participants engaging in discussions through the Zoom platform’s chat. The students listened attentively and expressed their thanks to the speaker for the informative and inspiring presentation.
