At the Faculty of Biology and Technology of SNAU, a live, on-site open lecture on the topic “Breeding Work in Horse Breeding” took place, with parallel online support for everyone interested. The lecture was held at the breeding farm of the private agricultural enterprise “Komyshanske.”
The purpose of the class was to strengthen students’ theoretical understanding and introduce them to the practical aspects of managing breeding work on a modern farm.
During the lecture, higher education students became acquainted with horse breeds, the system of maintaining breeding records, methods of selection and pairing of horses, and the assessment of their productive and reproductive qualities. Special attention was paid to issues of preserving the gene pool and improving the breeding qualities of the animals.
The farm specialists demonstrated the features of housing, feeding, and utilizing horses in breeding work, and also shared their practical experience in conducting selection activities. Students had the opportunity to observe the animals directly, analyze their exterior, and evaluate their compliance with breed standards.
Conducting the lecture in a production environment contributed to the formation of professional competencies for future specialists, the development of practical thinking, and a better understanding of the specifics of the horse breeding industry.
Such field classes are an essential part of the educational process, as they ensure a strong link between theory and practice and help develop competitive specialists.
