Directions of scientific activity

The scientific work of the department is focused on the integration of agricultural education into the European educational space, the introduction of modern technologies of foreign languages training, updating approaches and strengthening the effectiveness of teaching foreign languages and, thus, ensuring the integration of Ukrainian scientific research into the international research space; improvement of the communication system, which will ensure transparency, dynamic dissemination and popularization of agricultural knowledge and innovative technologies. The study of innovative processes in the system of higher education in Ukraine and worldwide deserves special attention, in particular, the study of modernization of higher education issues in the context of the Bologna process, projects of reforming higher education in Ukraine and their influence on the optimization of the process of foreign languages training for future professionals in agriculture.

Therefore, the staff of Foreign Languages Department carries out research work on the following topics:

Scientific achievements

Over the past 10 years, employees of Foreign Languages Department have defended 14 dissertations on the issues of foreign language competences formation in the process of professional training of future specialists in the agricultural sector, subject to the implementation of  general European quality standards of higher education, taking into account and overcoming risk factors in the organization of the educational process in line with European integration and internationalization trends; peculiarities of educational technologies and practices of teaching international students; genesis and status of modern agricultural terminology in English, German and Ukrainian languages; cognitive processes and language representations in foreign languages training of students; lexical organization of professional texts; introduction of innovative technologies in the process of teaching foreign languages; formation of students’ foreign languages competences of (intercultural, sociocultural, communicative, etc.); diagnostics and quality control of students’ educational achievements; more than 400 articles have been published in scientific professional journals in Ukraine and abroad, among them, more than 50 articles in journals included in the international scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science; more than 600 abstracts in proceeding collections of international and all-Ukrainian conferences, 1 individual monograph and 4 chapters in collective monographs, 70 educational and methodical manuals were created; The 1st International scientific and practical internet conference: “Modern Trends in Teaching Foreign Languages to Students in a Multicultural Academic Environment” was held on the basis of Sumy National Agrarian University, the proceeding collection of the conference was published and registered in the scientometric database of Google Scholar and the electronic catalog of the National Library of Ukraine named after V. I. Vernadskyi.

Scientific and practical activity

Academicians of Foreign Languages Department systematically carry out scientific, administrative, technical and simultaneous translation from the state language into English, German and French, enabling agrarian knowledge and Ukraine innovative technologies dissemination and popularization in academic and industrial environments abroad.

International cooperation

In 2018 Foreign Languages Department established Pearson English Language Testing Center based on accreditation results and on the basis of certificate No. 87331 dated October 12, 2018, issued by Pearson Education Limited (London). Pearson exam is designed and delivered by Edexcel, the UK’s largest exam centre.

Educators of the department regularly participate in the work of international online academic mobility projects, in particular: ‘’Modern Teaching Methods and InnovativeTechnologies in Higher Education: European Experience and Global Trends’’ (Sofia, Bulgaria), ‘’Academic Integrity in the Training for Masters and Doctors of Philosophy (PhD) in the Countries of the European Union and Ukraine’’ (Lublin, Poland), ‘’International Leadership in the XXI century: Education, Science, Culture, Sports, Technologies, Governance and International Development’’ (Dubai, UAE);

raise their professional level through participation in webinars, offline trainings and seminars of the British Council Organization (Great Britain), Pearson Education Limited (Great Britain), Goethe-Institut (Germany), Association des professeurs de Français (France), Media Literacy Institute ( USA);

Grants were won for the organization of events “EU STRATEGIES EXTRAPOLATION FOR BOOSTING STUDENTS’ MEDIA LITERACY IN UKRAINIAN HE” and “THE LINGUISTIC DIMENSION OF THE NOTION “SECIRITY” AS THE KEY COMPONENT OF THE CONCEPT OF A SAFE EDUCATIONAL SPACE: THE EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE” in the framework of Jean Monnet educational program, targeted to increase the level of knowledge and awareness of the society in the EU and beyond its borders on issues of European integration, through the stimulation of teaching, research activities on European integration, interpersonal and intercultural dialogue.
