The staff of the department develops issues of targeted growing and stimulation of nutritional functions in young farm animals and poultry, improving the technology of animal feeding. The staff of the department continues the research of Professor G.V. Provotorov on issues of normalized animal feeding, methods of preparing fodders for feeding and balancing rations for different types of feeding, increasing the level of fodder conversion in animals of different species under conditions of industrial and farming technologies of animal products manufacturing.

The teaching stuff of the department are also involved in projects on obtaining organic poultry products, improving the technology of keeping and feeding pigs and production of high quality raw milk and its processing.

A scientific-practical laboratory “Fodder quality” has been created at the department. It evaluates and prepares implementation of  innovative technologies of fodder procurement and analysis, conducts comparative assessment of composition and quality of ingredients and fillers used in the production of protein-mineral vitamin supplements (PMVS) and premixes produced by various manufacturers. The laboratory also provides advisory assistance to livestock breeders in the organization of fully balanced feeding of animals. The laboratory allows to involve students in scientific work and to prepare bachelor, master and postgraduate works.

Priority areas of research

The main directions of scientific work of the department are testing of new fodders and feeding additives in the diets of different animal species, increasing their productivity, improving resistance and reproductive capacity of pigs, reducing product costs. Determining the level of genetic burden in poultry populations, development of methods for sex defining in poultry, optimizing the usage of raw milk and improving of fodder conversion are also priority directions.
