Visit to the Dairy Complex in Andriivske village: Phenotypic Evaluation of the Lebedyn Cattle Breed within the framework of the FAO project

Today, as part of an international project by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), a working visit was conducted to the dairy complex of Mykhailivka Breeding Farm (“Plemzavod Mykhailivka”) in the village of Andriivske, Sumy District.
The primary aim of the visit was to conduct a phenotypic evaluation of cows of the Lebedyn breed, as well as to collect milk samples for subsequent analysis of their qualitative characteristics.

During the visit, researchers from the Faculty of Biology and Technology of Sumy National Agrarian University, in conjunction with specialists from the Institute of Agriculture of the North-East of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, performed a meticulous inspection of the animals. They assessed the cows’ exterior characteristics, general health, and adherence to breed standards.
Furthermore, milk samples were collected to ascertain their chemical composition—including protein and fat content—as well as other vital components, all of which are essential for further breeding work and the enhancement of herd productivity.

The participants noted that the outcomes of this study will help to enhance the genetic potential of the Lebedyn breed, improve milk quality, and foster further development of livestock farming in the region.
