To enhance professional competencies, a field-based practical session was held on May 13 for third-year students as part of the courses “Breeding of Farm Animals with Basics of Reproduction” and “Hygiene of Farm Animals” at the State Enterprise “Experimental Farm of the Institute of Agriculture of the North-East of NAAS”.
Course instructors Yurii Skliarenko and Tetiana Cherniavska introduced students to the farm’s production facilities and provided hands-on experience in:
– livestock housing technologies for different sex and age groups;
– animal feeding technologies;
– cow milking and primary milk processing;
– determination of milk quality indicators;
– methods of animal numbering and identification;
– performance of weight control of young animals and control milking of cows;
– evaluation of cow conformation and taking body measurements.
Artificial insemination technician Serhii Buhaiev conducted practical training on cow insemination, including:
– demonstration of equipment at the insemination point;
– methods of semen storage and quality assessment;
– tools used for inseminating cows and heifers.
Such practical sessions are an essential part of the educational process and are extremely important for acquiring professional skills, developing hands-on experience, and understanding technological processes in modern animal husbandry.
