General Information

Date and place of birth: November 7, 1951; village of Plishchyn, Shepetivka Raion, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine.

Education

1968–1971 — Novochortoryiskyi Zooveterinary Technical School (Zhytomyr region).

1973–1980 — M.V. Frunze Kishinev Agricultural Institute; specialization: Animal Science; qualification: Animal Scientist.

1986 — Defense of dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Agricultural Sciences (specialty 06.02.01 – Animal Breeding and Selection). Topic: “Efficiency of crossing Red Steppe cows with bulls of specialized dairy breeds.”

1995 — Awarded the academic rank of Senior Researcher in the specialty of Animal Breeding.

2005 — Defense of dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Agricultural Sciences (specialty 06.02.01 – Animal Breeding and Selection). Topic: “Evaluation of animal conformation in the cattle breeding system.”

2011 — Awarded the academic rank of Professor in the Department of Animal Breeding and Selection.

Professional Experience

1991–1996 — Head of the Livestock Department, Khmelnytskyi Research and Production Association “Elita” (UAAS).

1996–2006 — Head of the Dairy Cattle Laboratory and the Farm Animal Breeding Department, Cherkasy Institute of Agro-Industrial Production (UAAS).

2006–2023 — Head of the Department of Animal Breeding and Selection, Sumy National Agrarian University.

Since September 1, 2023 — Professor, Department of Animal Genetics, Breeding, and Biotechnology, Sumy National Agrarian University.

Key academic courses: “Farm Animal Breeding,” “Automated Management Systems in Livestock Production,” “Livestock Genetic Resources of Ukraine,” “Realization of Farm Animal Genetic Potential,” “Herd Management.”

Research Work

Research focus: Genetic improvement of newly developed Ukrainian dairy cattle breeds, involving an in-depth study of the theoretical and practical aspects of evaluating and selecting animals of the desired type, taking into account conformation and constitutional characteristics.

Supervisor of 7 successful Candidate of Sciences theses, one PhD thesis, and one Doctor of Sciences thesis. Author of five inventions and over 540 scientific publications, including 6 monographs, 6 textbooks, 12 sets of guidelines and methodological recommendations, 4 breed selection programs, and 20 programs for establishing high-yielding dairy cattle herds. Author of 11 articles indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection databases.

Head of the scientific school: genetic improvement of dairy and dual-purpose cattle breeds, focusing on consolidating productivity and conformation type.

State-Funded Research Projects

While working at Sumy National Agrarian University, conducted research under the following state-funded projects:

  • “Preservation of the gene pool of the Lebedyn and Ukrainian Grey cattle breeds” (2006);
  • “Breeding improvement program for the newly developed Ukrainian Brown dairy breed for the period 2006–2015” (2006);
  • “Preparation of modern regulatory documents on animal breeding and zootechnics in accordance with ICAR and INTERBULL requirements” (2009–2010);
  • “Justification of the methodology for the improvement and preservation of the Brown cattle population in the Northeastern region of Ukraine” (2017–2019).
