On October 7, 2026, an open lecture was held at the Faculty of Biology and Technology of Sumy National Agrarian University for first-year master’s students enrolled in the “Cynology” educational program. Undergraduate cynology students also attended the session, which was conducted online.

The lecture was delivered by Liudmyla Valerianivna Bula, Acting Head of the Department of Animal Production and Processing Technology and Cynology, Associate Professor, and Candidate of Agricultural Sciences.

The lecture focused on the topic: “Dog Breeds: Structure, Classification Principles, and FCI Standards.”

The aim of the lecture was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of breed formation in dog breeding, intra-breed structure, and modern international principles of breed classification, as well as the application of breed standards in breeding practices and cynological judging.

To achieve this, the lecturer employed various methodological techniques, such as posing thought-provoking questions, engaging students in discussion, and summarizing the lecture’s key points. Particular emphasis was placed on visual aids; the lecture material was accompanied by an extensive illustrated presentation.

The session helped students develop a holistic understanding of breed formation and intra-breed structure, as well as skills in interpreting dogs’ conformational traits and applying breed standards in breeding work. …professional ethics and a responsible approach to preserving the breed gene pool.

The lecture sparked significant interest among both students and colleagues. Faculty members from the Department of Animal Production Technology and Cynology and the Department of Animal Feed and Nutrition, representatives from the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Biology and Technology, and a specialist from the SNAU Educational and Methodological Department for Quality Assurance joined the discussion.

This demonstration lecture served as a vital component of the “Cynology” educational program, showcasing a modern approach to teaching the course “Breeding Resources, Selection, and Reproduction of Dogs.” The use of scientifically grounded materials and multimedia aids ensured the session’s high effectiveness and fostered the professional development of future specialists in the field of cynology.
