On April 23, 2026, at 12:15, a guest lecture was held at Sumy National Agrarian University on the topic: INTEGRATED ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING BASED ON PRACTICALLY ORIENTED TASKS (TASK-BASED LEARNING)
Lecturer: Liudmyla Zharikova, Senior Lecturer, Department of Language and Literature Education, Institute of Postgraduate Education, Kyiv University named after Borys Grinchenko.
The lecture was focused on the use of integrated English language teaching through task-based learning (TBL) in non-language higher educational institutions. It highlighted how communicative, practice-oriented tasks can be combined with subject-specific content to enhance students’ ability to use English in professional contexts. It outlined key principles of TBL and demonstrated how task design supported the development of communicative competence, critical thinking, and collaboration skills. Special attention was given to practical classroom applications, including examples of tasks adapted for students of non-language specialties.
The lecturer considered the use of integrated English language teaching based on practically oriented tasks (Task-Based Learning) in non-philological higher educational institutions. She showed how combining communicative tasks with professional content contributes to students’ ability to use English in professional activities. The main principles of the Task-Based Learning approach were outlined, and examples of practical tasks adapted to the needs of students of different specialties were presented.
The Department of Foreign Languages initiated the lecture. The event was moderated by Olena Valentynivna Krekoten, a senior lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages at SNAU.
The lecture aroused lively interest from the university teachers and outlined new approaches of pedagogical activity.
