Key strategies for the development of which the project works
– strengthening cooperation on the development of the information society (Article 389 Ch. 14 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community and their member states, on the other hand);
– promoting the implementation of national information society strategies, the development of a comprehensive legal framework for electronic communications and the expansion of Ukraine’s participation in EU research activities in the field of ICT (Article 390, Chapter 14 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, the European the Atomic Energy Community and their member states, on the other hand);
– cooperation aimed at promoting the audiovisual industry in Europe, supporting mass media (public and private), strengthening their independence, professionalism and relations with other European mass media in accordance with European standards, in particular the standards of the Council of Europe (Article 396 Ch. 15 of the Association Agreement between Ukraine, on the one hand, and the European Union, the European Atomic Energy Community and their member states, on the other hand).
The goal is to develop students and faculties’ knowledge about the main directions of the EU policy in the field of media education and to involve higher educational institutions of Ukraine in the European discourse of media literacy in the conditions of Russia’s unprovoked military invasion of Ukraine. This project enables implementing the European approach to understanding and developing media literacy in the society, promotes the spread of critical thinking skills, necessary for assessing situations, analyzing complex issues and distinguishing between opinions and facts.
Tasks:
1) increasing the awareness of young people about the European media space and countering manipulations in it, developing approaches, forms, methods and means that would positively influence the development of media literacy and critical thinking, taking into account the main trends and initiatives covered by important European documents in this field.
2) spreading media awareness of citizens in the conditions of the negative impact of the war, taking into account the leading experience of the EU countries in the context of promoting intercultural communication, supporting European integration and further international cooperation.
The project provides the following educational activities: “BASIC EU MEDIA LITERACY PRACTICES FOR FORMING STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING IN THE CONTEXT OF LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE” (for foreign students); “MAJOR EU PRACTICES ON MEDIA LITERACY FOR BOOSTING STUDENTS’ CRITICAL THINKING IN THE FRAME OF THE TARGET LANGUAGE LEARNING” (for Ukrainian students, Master’s and postgraduate students); “Complex of certified intercultural trainings “Diversity representation: overcoming stereotypes”; “Summer school “Information: truth and fakes in Ukrainian and EU media space: correlation with EU practices”; “Methodological recommendations for educators of higher education institutions regarding students’ media literacy”. In addition, EUSELENA conducts a scientific research, that includes: 3 articles, including 1 in the journal, indexed in Scopus or Web of Science database.
Promotion is provided by the development and support of the project website (Ukrainian and English versions) on the jm.snau.edu.ua domain, outreach activities at various levels (regional, local and national, at least 2 events per year). The project envisages the following level of involvement (training) of target groups: undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, representatives of the mass media and the non-academic sector, high school students. Other indicators: printed articles (academic – 3), attendance at conferences (3 in total), prepared didactic materials – 5 (bilingual – Ukrainian and English).

LINGUISTIC DIMENSION OF THE NOTION “SECURITY” AS THE KEY COMPONENT OF THE CONCEPT OF A SAFE EDUCATIONAL SPACE: THE EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE 101094386 – EUSPACED – ERASMUS-JMO-2021-HEI-TCH-RSCH |
The project aims to achieve the following goals:
– To study the concept of “security” in its diachronic and intercultural development as the fundamental component of the European values, to expand modern interdisciplinary knowledge about this phenomenon and understand the role that security plays in the development of Ukrainian and international students’ cognitive ability.
– To disseminate and implement the concept of creating a safe educational space at the university; benefits and challenges of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU; the impact of realizing the significance of security as a basic European value on the main target groups and the Ukrainian society.
– To analyze possibilities and feasibilities of implementing a safe educational environment based on European cultural values in modern Ukrainian realities.
– To determine the prospects for implementing the EU experience in developing a safe educational space in Ukraine.
– To study the basic principles of security in intercultural communication and the implementation of the EU cultural policy.
Target group: Scientists, teachers, students, postgraduate students, researchers, public people, the general public. Publication preparation: textbooks, lecture notes, training syllabus collections, conference materials.
Conducting scientific linguistic and interdisciplinary research on the impact of deprivation of a person’s primary adaptive need for security on his cognitive abilities and ways to correct such an impact.
Expected outcomes: Promoting the culture of security in the field of the EU integration / European sphere of security in the educational space, as well as stimulating perfection in training and research on European security.
The results will be aimed at harmonizing the EU policy in the field of a safe educational space for foreigners.

Work packages and activities
- A special course “Winter Academy for University Teachers: Implementation of Safe Educational Space for International Citizens on the Example of the EU Countries”
The special course is developed to organize and conduct 40-hour-training (20 hours of lectures and 20 hours of practical seminars for scientists, researchers, and university teachers in Ukraine.
The purpose of the special course:
- Understanding the importance of security as a basic European value.
- Dissemination and implementation of safe educational space concept based on European cultural values in today’s Ukrainian realities.
Goals of the special course:
– to study the concept of security in its diachronic and intercultural development;
– to expand modern interdisciplinary knowledge about the concept of “security”;
– to study European experience in creating a safe educational space in Ukraine;
– to acquire the basic security principles of intercultural communication and the EU cultural policy implementation.
- The accredited course “The concept of safe educational environment” for foreign students of the main faculties of SNAU.

This course is the selective course for foreign students of SNAU.
It is aimed at understanding by the foreign students the concept of “safe educational environment” and the implementation of acquired knowledge and skills to achieve high results in learning and further activities.
It includes theoretical and practical material that is studied by students during classes that involve the use of interactive forms of learning.
During the course, students must master theoretical material that includes a wide range of terminology of the concept of “security”. They must be able to apply the acquired knowledge, adequately respond and interact with different types of risks.
- 3. Holding an all-Ukrainian sociolinguistic seminar “The notion of “security” in scientific and intercultural domestic (Ukrainian) and European discourses” Sections: philological, philosophical, pedagogical.
The purpose of the seminar:
– to draw public attention to current issues of the safe educational space;
– to unite and support Ukrainian and foreign specialists to form a professional network community to discuss current research issues, exchange experience and research developments;
– to provide an opportunity, using modern information and communication technologies, to present their achievements and innovative ideas that can attract specialists’ attention in various fields and become the subject of discussion;
– to promote European values’ development in Ukraine.
Expected outcomes:
- The well-known practice of conducting online conferences has proven to be a reliable way to disseminate information.
- Internet conference, which combines the Internet technology capabilities and benefits is the possibility of direct communication with the target audience and the process of two-way interactive discussion of current and problematic issues via the Internet-communication programs.
